Both local Junior A teams are off to impressive starts to the new Ontario Junior Hockey League season.
On Sunday the Wellington Dukes pounded the Pickering Panthers 6-1 on the road in their first game of the year.
Ben Vreugdenhil scored a goal and two assists while Cole Ellis and Ryan Schaap added a goal and assist each.
Zack Mascard, Logan Klaiber, Ben Pouliot and Cole Ellis rounded out the scoring for Wellington.
The Dukes play their home opener Friday night when they host the Toronto Junior Canadiens.
The Trenton Golden Hawks are off to a 2-0 start by following up Friday night’s win over Cobourg with a 4-1 victory at St. Mike’s against the Buzzers.
Devin Mauro (2nd), Cooper Matthews (2nd) and Mathhew Souliere (2nd) staked Trenton to a 3-0 first-period lead then rode the 29 save effort by goaltender Brady Spry.
David Fournier added an empty netter and an assist.
The Golden Hawks are home to Pickering Friday night.
