Belleville Fire and Emergency Services welcomed a new pumper truck Wednesday with a popular fire station tradition.
Mayor Neil Ellis was in the driver’s seat as a “push-in” ceremony was held for the new pumper at Station 1.
Fire Chief Dan Smith says the ceremony is an old tradition done by fire departments when they take delivery of new trucks.
“So the push-in ceremony goes back to the days of the horse and buggy and the steamers that were used for the fire services. So, when they returned back to the station they’d unhook the horses and the firefighters would have to push the cart back into the hall.”
This is the first of two new pumpers the fire department will be receiving.
It will be posted at Station 2.
