Colonel Leif Dahl has been temporarily removed from the command of 8 Wing CFB Trenton following his arrest last week.
In a statement issued Wednesday afternoon, Major General Iain Huddleston, Commander of 1 Canadian Air Division, says, “While the legal process runs its course in the civilian court system, I have decided to temporarily remove Col Dahl from command pending the outcome of the investigative process and court proceedings.”
Dahl was charged by Quinte West OPP following an incident on the Murray Canal on August 25 when police allege someone in a boat shot at wildlife.
The firearm was allegedly tossed into the water and retrieved by OPP divers.
Charges against the 45-year-old Dahl include obstructing a peace officer, careless use of a firearm and hunting birds without a licence.
Dahl is to appear in court in Belleville September 28.
Lieutenant-Colonel Matt Lederle has been appointed as Acting Wing Commander at CFB Trenton.
In his statement, Major General Huddleston notes Dahl was on leave at the time of the incident.
