Like the national rate, the local unemployment rate rose in June.
The rate for the Belleville – Quinte West Census Metropolitan Area, consisting of Belleville, Quinte West, Stirling-Rawdon, and Tyendinaga/Deseronto, jumped to 6.7 per cent in June.
It was 5.3 per cent in May and 4.1 per cent in April.
Statistics Canada says the national unemployment rate rose to 5.4 per cent in June.
That’s up from 5.2 per cent in May and the highest it’s been in over a year.
The federal agency says the increase came as the economy added 60,000 jobs in June, but with more people searching for work, the unemployment rate pushed higher.
The provincial rate ticked up to 5.7 per cent last months from May’s 5.5.
