Belleville police responded to 263 calls for service over a 96-hour period from 5 a.m. on November 10, 2022 to 5 a.m. on November 14, 20222.
Impaired Driving
On November 10, 2022 at 11:50 p.m., Belleville police officers stopped a vehicle in the city’s east end. The driver showed signs of alcohol consumption and failed a roadside alcohol screening device. The driver was arrested and provided two breath samples over the legal limit. As a result, 22-year-old Jacob Smart was charged with having a blood alcohol concentration of 80 plus milligrams. He was later released with a December 15 court date.
Outstanding Warrants
On November 11, 2022, Belleville police were on general patrol in the west end of Belleville when they noticed a male who was wanted by police. Nicholas Semple, 27, from Belleville, was wanted on outstanding warrants for obstructing police, failing to comply with a probation order, mischief under $5000 and failing to attend court. He was arrested and released a short time later with a new court date for December 8, 2022 in Belleville.
Arrested on Warrants
On the evening of November 12, 2022 at 9:56 p.m., Belleville police were called to the city’s east end for a domestic dispute. Police located a male on the scene who was wanted for:
- Fail to attend court
- 3 counts of fail to comply with a release order
- Take a motor vehicle without consent
As a result, 26-year-old Tyler Ruttan of Belleville was arrested on those outstanding warrants and later released with a December 8, 2022 court date.
Attempted Arson and Mischief
On November 13, 2022 at 11:56 a.m., a 35-year-old female was kicked out of a shelter for misbehaving. The female made her way to the Belleville Police Service, where she began to yell and scream in the lobby and was requested to leave. After an extended conversation, the female was escorted out. The female then attempted to light the building on fire. When the fire didn’t work, the female dropped her pants and urinated at the front door. She was arrested for mischief and attempted arson endangering life. She was held for a bail hearing on November, 14, 2022.
