The following press release was sent announcing that the Regent Theatre Foundation received a $50,000 grant from the province of Ontario.
The Regent Theatre Foundation is thrilled to announce the receipt of a $50,000 grant from the Government of Ontario’s Community Building Fund – Operating stream. This grant, awarded in 2021 and delivered by the Ontario Trillium Foundation, has enabled the Regent Theatre to hire three County residents for 12 months to develop hybrid/digital programming and youth engagement initiatives.
“The Regent Theatre has been at the heart of Picton’s Main Street for over a century, providing a wide range of live and video entertainment for its community. That longevity is the product of an ability to adapt and stay current,” said Todd Smith, MPP for Bay of Quinte. “This $50,000 grant through the Community Building Fund offers stability as the Regent weathers pandemic-related challenges and develops innovative programming for its audience.”
The pandemic has enabled The Regent to expand its programming into the digital sphere with live streams and podcasts, and has necessitated a technological shift towards online sales and a more robust online presence. With the support of this grant, three part-time positions have been created: Marketing & Communications Coordinator, Hybrid Programming Associate Producer and Web/Box Office Integration Coordinator.
The Regent Theatre is the only entertainment venue in the County that offers year-round employment and volunteer opportunities to County residents. The Regent survived COVID with the support of the community; now, with the support of OTF, the organization looks forward to giving back to and building the community.
