The renovations to Shannonville Motorsports Park continued with the grand opening of a new event centre on the property Tuesday.
The building, formerly a garage, is now decorated with racing memorabilia and is set to entertain large numbers of guests for events.
John Bondar, president of Shannonville Motorsports Park, says having an event centre will attract businesses and big clients to hold events in the area, benefiting the park and other local businesses.
“So we’ll be reaching out to, I call it corporate Canada, on both the motorcycle and car side and along with their media and marketing companies, to say we’ve got a facility here,” Bondar said. “Obviously we do have a race track but I think more importantly we have a lot of other amenities. So those companies can come here and check out the county.”
Bondar says other businesses that serve tourists in the area can benefit from companies bringing large events to the motorsports park, such as hotels and the casino in Belleville.
The event centre will create eight new jobs on the motorsports park to operate it.
Building the event centre is part of an ongoing renovation of the park facilities, with the next step including repaving sections of the racetrack.
