Air Cadets from Picton and Trenton conducted survival training over the weekend.
173 “Royal Tiger” and 851 “Prince Edward” Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadrons completed a two-day exercise at Macaulay Mountain Conservation Area.
Sixty air cadets between the two squadrons learned about survival in the woods.
Cadets aged 12-18 learned to make fire, navigate using a map and compass, and construct improvised shelters.
Senior cadets aged 16-18 planned and carried out the exercise under the supervision of members of the Canadian Armed Forces who oversee the Cadet Program.
“Aircrew survival training is a key part of the Air Cadet program which teaches youth useful skills that will serve them throughout their lives. The collaboration between 851 Squadron and 173 Squadron allowed for the sharing of resources and expertise but also allowed youth from two different communities to connect. It was a highly successful weekend all around,” said Captain Darius Soo Lum of 173 Royal Tiger RCACS.
