Quinte West Council approved a tender for $2.1 million for upgrades to the centennial park boat ramp during the council meeting on Monday.
During the meeting, council debated whether or not to expand the total budget for the project from $3 million to $5.2 million.
Councillor DeWitt advocated against expanding the project budget, and pointed out the project is currently under budget.
“We’ve worked hard to rebuild the waterfront here over the last several terms of council and 50 years we weren’t even able to launch a proper sized boat, and still can’t, off that boat launch. An we worked hard to get to this point, especially with the permits,” Said DeWitt. “Our budget we passed $3 million, if we awarded the core items right now we’d be at 2.2… so we’d be coming in under budget.”
The approved spending covers only in-water work, including dredging and cement foundations, and does not cover any facilities on land.
