There is still no full settlement of what’s known as the Culbertson land tract, more than 900 acres of land in the Tyendinaga and Deseronto areas.
A partial settlement was accomplished last fall when 95% of the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte members voted in favour of the agreement.
Meanwhile a spokesperson tells Quinte News the federal government has not signed any agreement yet.
The deal would turn over 299 acres of land to the control and administration of the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte.
Chief R. Don Maracle tells Quinte News that when the federal government does sign, the agreement would come into effect 45 days later.
The land in question is to the west side of Deseronto Road and is the farm of Terry Kimmett.
Maracle says the federal government would have to deal with any claims by Kimmett.
The partial agreement will see Ottawa transfer more than $25 million to the Tyendinaga Mohawks in compensation for loss of land over the past 180 years.
