Cobourg Police issued several tickets following a weekend gathering in Victoria Park that was in defiance of the current Stay-at-Home order.
Police say about 45 people were in attendance at the Saturday afternoon gathering and loud music was being played on the bandshell stage.
The group was asked to disperse but several people remained in the park resulting in police handing out seven tickets and Cobourg By-law Enforcement Officers issuing one offence notice.
Chief Paul VandeGraaf says officers were met with derogatory and disrespectful behaviour and that, “It’s disheartening that the group organizers have not changed their actions after voicing their commitment to remain peaceful.”
Further charges may be laid as police say they are investigating eight other individuals who allegedly attended the event.
