Quinte West Mayor Jim Harrison says COVID-19 has been difficult for everyone especially those working in hospitals and in health care.
Harrison says there are times that have seen hope, other times of sorrow, to go along with stress, anxiety, and fear of the unknown.
He says over the last several days, he has had a number of meetings related to health care, and now Harrison has laid down a challenge.
His Worship says, “For those in health care to succeed at their job, they need our support. Ontario’s health care system is a provincewide system, not something that runs in separate locations. I have been notified that local hospitals are going to be receiving patients from out of area.”
“They may have COVID-19 and need help, or they may be coming for treatment from areas overrun with the virus.” Harrison added, “This third wave means all hands are on deck, and we need to help our front line workers however we can. The vaccines are coming in and we are going to beat this, but those in health care are overworked, exhausted, and feeling stressed. I want them to know how much we appreciate all they do.”
“ICU cases in Ontario are up 21% and care in hospitals is up 24%. Health care in Ontario works when we work together. Thank your health care workers, and make sure to do what you can to show your support.”
