Several Canadian artists and speakers will be part of a global livestream event this weekend aiming to raise awareness about climate change.
Vidya Pandiaraju of youth climate activist group Climate Live Canada says simultaneous concerts will be held in more than 40 countries as part of international movement Climate Live 2021.
“We have some really great Canadian artists like Scott Helman, we have the Barenaked Ladies, Lia Pappas-Kemps. And we also have incredible Black and Indigenous speakers to kind of share their perspective on the movement. And we’ve had a great advisory committee who’s helped us edit the whole thing together and it’s going to be played back as a livestream on April 24.”
She says using music to bring awareness about the climate crisis seemed like a natural idea.
“Everybody listens to music, everybody enjoys it and so having artists sign their name onto this movement and just getting people kind of involved within the livestream just to watch their favourite artists and hear speakers – whatever they might be coming for – they’re still getting involved in the climate movement.”
Two local students are helping spread the word about Saturday’s event.
Seventeen -year-old Anissa Nielsen and 16-year-old Jocelyn Davis, both grade 11 students at Centennial Secondary School, have been working with Climate Live Canada helping to promote the event.
