The City of Belleville has set a date for a public forum on policing and mental health in the city.
A release from City Hall on Tuesday says the event is being put on “to directly hear from the people who have reached out seeking a dialogue about policing, ways in which police are funded, and how they are called upon to deal with matters related to mental health and addictions.”
The two-hour virtual event will be broadcast on the city’s YouTube page on March 9, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and held in two parts.
Part one will involve members of city council and members of local police services and mental health and addictions staff, while part two will be an open forum for community members to speak about their own experiences.
If you’re interested in taking part, you’re asked to email City Clerk Matt MacDonald (mtmacdonald@belleville.ca) with your name, email address, a brief outline of your position on the issues at hand, and any questions you may wish to ask.
