The Bay of Quinte Regional Marketing Board has won another award from the Economic Developers Council of Ontario for a documentary about immigration in the local community.
“A Place to Call Home” won the Workplace Development and Resident Attraction Award Wednesday at the EDCO’s virtual conference.
Marketing Board Executive Director Dug Stevenson says the film tells the story of new Canadians attending Loyola School of Adult & Continuing Education as they make their new life in Canada.
“Even though all of these folks come from different corners of the world, there are a lot of things that we have in common and they really formed a sense of community together and support each other as they make their way through the levels of this schooling. And it’s pretty cool the documentary culminates in what is in effect the graduation.”
Stevenson says he doesn’t think people realize the levels of diversity and immigration that go on in the region.
“We’ve got a really strong job sector here, right with things like manufacturing, the service sector, but let’s talk about how beautiful this place is. It’s becoming more and more a place for new Canadians who are just seeking out a safe, beautiful place to live in Canada, that’s also affordable.”
The documentary, which was filmed by local filmmakers Fifth Town Films, also won the Best Local Film Award at last year’s Belleville Docfest.
