They are pushing ever closer to the half million dollar mark.
On Monday morning, at the Batawa Lofts (former Bata Shoe factory), organizers, sponsors, dignitaries and media gathered for the funding announcement from the CFB Trenton Pond Hockey Classic.
Earlier this month there was a gala dinner and silent/live auction, a senior pond hockey tournament and a youth tournament. Thirty-nine teams (312 players) took part in the tournament, while 180 joined the gala evening, which raised $14,000 alone from the live auction.
Organizer Jeff Moorhouse announced that $70,000 was brought in from the three events, in this their 9th year. Over the last nine years, the weekend has amassed $422,000 split between the Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation and Wounded Warriors Canada.
Moorhouse says it has been an amazing run.
He was also quick to thank the sponsors and supporters.
Steve Topham from Wounded Warriors Canada says their portion of the funds raised (about $35,000) will go directly into programming for service women and men, and their families.
The money for TMHF will go into equipment for Trenton Memorial.
Moorhouse says next year’s goal is simple, surpass the $500,000 mark in the tenth anniversary of the event.
Next year’s weekend is February 5 – 7 ,2021.
