The Napanee Raiders began their Schmaltz Cup push on the right foot Friday night with a 5-4 overtime win over the visiting Gananoque Islanders.
The Islanders escaped the first period with a 2-1 lead, then added to it with an early second period goal to take a 3-1 lead.
Napanee responded with three unanswered goals to go up 4-3, but Gananoque responded before the end of the period to tie things back up at four.
After a scoreless third period, Devon King capitalized on the power-play to give the Raiders a 1-0 series lead.
The Raider power-play was a perfect 3-3 on the night.
Napanee also fired 59 shots on Islander goaltender Jeremy Piazzi who made 54 saves in the loss.
In the Napanee goal Mitch Brown made 35 saves.
Aidan McFarland racked up a goal and two assists for the Raiders while Justynn Steven picked up a goal and an assist. Marshall McFarland and Alex Case also scored in the contest.
Game two will go Sunday night at 7 p.m. in Gananoque.
