The newly elected Conservative MP for Northumberland-Peterborough South says he and his party will continue pushing to make life more affordable for Canadians in the Liberal led minority government.
Philip Lawrence says Canadians are hard working and could thrive financially but Liberal governments have over-regulated business and over-taxed everyone.
Lawrence says his party will push for measures that increase Canadian workers’ productivity as well. Productivity is a measure of Gross Domestic Product per capita and he says Canada is lagging behind other modern economies.
“The higher workers’ productivity the higher wages can be. Switzerland’s average hourly wage is $33 an hour while ours is around $19.”
Lawrence says he’s already involved in and will continue to be with other MPs from all political stripes in an effort to get the International Joint Commission to dramatically lower the water levels in Lake Ontario.
Flooding last spring caused many millions of dollars in property damage and many predict that if levels aren’t dropped a lot before this coming spring the flooding will be much worse.
“We’ll continue to press the IJC to let every possible drop of water out of the lake possible without flooding the City of Montreal and other areas downstream. It is a challenging situation for everyone involved.”
As far as working in a minority Liberal government is concerned, Lawrence says people expect us to work together and to work to make Canadians lives better.
“We (Conservatives) and I intend to do just that. If an NDP member has a great idea that will benefit the residents of Northumberland-Peterborough South I’ll support it. I’m in it for my riding’s residents.”
