Elementary and Secondary school teachers demonstrated in front of Bay of Quinte MPP Todd Smith’s office Thursday, campaigning as they ramp up possible strike action.
The teachers gathered late Thursday afternoon in front of Smith’s Rossmore office.
Smith was not in the office, but in Toronto at the time.
President of the local Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario, Dave Henderson, says the main issue is that “the provincial government hasn’t come to the table with any serious proposals for a deal.”
Henderson tells Quinte News the main issues include more support for students with special needs.
Henderson says that’s why the teachers are “ramping things up and looking at job action on November 26, to pressure the government to get to the table serious proposals.”
Teachers are looking toward a work to rule campaign.

President of the Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation District 29, Scott Marshall, tells Quinte News, “The cuts that the government is still holding onto are going to have direct impact on students in the system.”
Marshall added that teachers don’t want a strike but they are prepared to defend the schools.
Ontario public high school teachers will be in a legal strike position in another week.
