The Winnipeg Jets shook off their opening night 8-1 loss to Ottawa to beat the Montreal Canadiens 2-1 at the Rookie Showcase Tournament at the CAA Arena. Johnathan Kovacevic scored the winner short handed mid way through the second period. The 22 year old Kovacevic was a third round pick of the Jets in 2017. ]
Winnipeg’s other goal came from 2019 first rounder Ville Heinola. Alexandre Alain replied for Montreal.
The final game of the tournament is tonight (Monday) with the Jets playing the Ottawa Senators at 7. Ottawa is 2-0.
