A spike in suspected opioid overdose visits to Quinte area hospital emergency departments has led to health agencies planning an educational event in Belleville’s Market Square.
The Harm Reduction Task Force of Hastings Prince Edward will host the event between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. on August 28 to commemorate International Overdose Awareness Day.
The idea is to share information about local programs and services.
There will be Naloxone training to teach individuals how to recognize and respond to an overdose.
The Task Force says, with increased amounts of Fentanyl available in the community, there is an increased risk of overdoses.
Medical Officer of Heath Dr. Peter Oglaza will address the public.
The day will include personal stories of people who have been impacted by overdose or substance use disorders.
