The company behind The Food Awards Ontario says it never tried to scam owners of a Belleville restaurant, as we had reported last week.
The owners of Chilangos had contacted Quinte News saying they were owed $1,700 they paid for tickets to the awards gala, which was cancelled by the organizer Creative Oceanic and that the company wasn’t returning their calls.
A Creative Oceanic representative emailed Quinte News Wednesday saying that is simply not the case and that the company will indeed issue a refund within 90 days of the event, as per their cancellation policy.
The spokesperson says the event was cancelled after many of the award finalists said they would be too busy to attend and that everyone who paid for tickets would be refunded that money.
The company also provided an email correspondence with Chilangos ownership outlining their refund policy and apologizing for any problems they had getting in touch.
Two other Belleville restaurants did receive recognition from The Food Awards Ontario and made no similar claims about their dealings with the company.
