Public Health officials have identified a need for services of two health issues, one involving tuberculosis.
Hastings Prince Edward public heath reports these gaps in service are for a respiratory virus (RSV) and treatment of latent tuberculosis (TB) infections.
The health unit is now offering the respiratory clinics throughout flu season to protect premature infants.
Officials are also working with a Kingston area specialist to provide a latent TB infection clinic out of the Belleville Public Health office.
In order to meet these needs, the health unit is transferring the delivery of tuberculosis screening, for occupational and educational purposes, to community partners.
In a statement, the health unit states, “As this TB screening is not a requirement of the Ontario Public Health Standards, this change will not impact the organization’s ability to meet legislated requirements. By reallocating internal resources, HPEPH will now be able to deliver services that are not currently available elsewhere in the community.”
