On June 6, 2019, at 12:44 p.m., Belleville police attended at Centennial Secondary School regarding multiple threats including a bomb threat. Given the nature of the threats a lockdown was initiated. This also included four neighbouring schools/clubs including Sir John A. Macdonald School, Bay of Quinte Gymnastics Club, Quinte Ballet School and William R. Kirk School.
The area was cordoned off as teams of officers swept through Centennial Secondary School. A command centre had been established by police further south on Palmer Road. The command centre was also responsible for all outgoing communications.
No threat was discovered. By 5:10 p.m., all of the students had been safely escorted out of the school through a controlled exit. Police are praising the teachers who remained in their rooms reassuring their students. Belleville Fire Department and EMS played key roles in staging at the scene.
At 5:30 p.m., Belleville Police received another bomb threat at a west end location. Once this threat was determined to be unfounded a third bomb threat was received for another west end location. This threat was also unfounded.
These incidents are being investigated by the Criminal Investigations Branch. The lead investigator is Detective Tony McCambridge who can be reached at 613-966-0882 extension 2313 or Quinte Crimestoppers at 613-969-8477.
