Yet another injury to a spectatator has led to speculation on the future of the old Memorial Arena in Downtown Belleville. A 59-year old Whitby woman was rushed to Kingston General after being struck in the head by a puck during a midget hockey game on Sunday. That led to rumours the old barn would be limited to powerskating, figure skating and public skating for the remainder of the season. But, City officials say that’s not the case…adding they are trying to move older stronger players to different arenas in the city. A consultants report released late last year warned of the safety issues at the old rink and the millions of dollars that would be needed to bring it up to code. Today’s Intell reports the Whitby woman suffered a concussion and bruising but is otherwise okay.
