Belleville has decided to increase the amount of casino money it designates for social infrastructure.
Monday night, council increased the amount from 5% to 10% of the city’s casino money.
Treasurer Brian Cousins had provided three options, including moving the land acquisition fund to the social infrastructure.
This is what councillors decided to do, transferring another $139,819 to social issues.
Route 11 rides on
Belleville’s late night bus, that became so popular during the past year as a pilot project, will now be a permanent part of Belleville’s transit system.
Route 11 began in 2018 as a one-hour loop that had flexibility to pick up and drop off at any bus stop in the city.
Statistics presented to city council showed 4,000 riders and an annual revenue of $176,000.
Monday night, city council approved a budget of $220,000 for the Route 11 bus to continue permanently.
