A project that has been in the planning stages since the 1980s is finally complete.
The Haig Road/Station Street extension, which was included in some old secondary plans for the development of the Stanley Park area, was officially opened in east end Belleville Monday morning.
Belleville’s Director of Engineering Rod Bovay says the $4 million project took so long because development in the east end didn’t truly intensify until more recently.
The project included resurfacing, along with the addition of lighting, landscaping and bike lanes.

Mayor Mitch Panciuk says the project was a long time coming and will make things safer and more convenient for people living on that side of town.
The improvements were made along Station Street, from Farley Avenue up to where it turns into Haig Road, ending at Oak Ridge Boulevard.
