June 26 is the United Way’s Day of Caring and the United Way and numerous volunteers are gearing up to help in the community.
Melanie Cressman says this day is when workplaces that support the United Way put together groups of volunteers who help out at funded agencies to help out with projects they otherwise may not have the resources for.
This year, the Day of Caring also kicks off the social media campaign #UW60for60.
The United Way is encouraging people to do something that helps the community in 60 seconds, 60 minutes or even 60 items, whether it be carrying in neighbours’ groceries, holding the door for someone, giving an hour to the food bank or other charity or gathering 60 items for donation.
This social media campaign is to celebrate their 60th anniversary.
She explains how it works.
For this challenge, the United Way has partnered with the Quinte Mall and there will be gift cards for the mall worth $60 given away weekly during the month long challenge.
