The director of the former Prince Edward County Children’s Aid Society has been charged in connection to an investigation into the now defunct agency’s operations.
Prince Edward OPP say the Criminal Investigations Branch looked into previous abuse investigations and trials between 2002 and 2010, along with civil proceedings between 2013 and 2016 and have found grounds to lay more charges in the case.
During their recent investigation, police conducted further interviews and executed search warrants, seizing various pieces of evidence to be presented in court.
Sixty-seven-year-old William Sweet has been charged with 10 counts each of criminal negligence causing bodily harm and failing to provide the necessities of life and has a court date today.
Investigators say they won’t be releasing specific details of the allegations, but say the current Highland Shores Children’s Aid Society has cooperated fully.
