A proposal for a big retail development near downtown Picton will be in front of Prince Edward County council at its meeting tonight (Tuesday).
County staff is recommending zoning changes that would allow a large area for a grocery store, plus a general merchandise store or a pharmacy, on property along Loyalist Parkway between Canadian Tire and the No Frills store.
Staff is recommending no more than 65,000 square feet of new retail space, with restrictions on types of business to protect retailers and service providers located in downtown Picton.
However, the developers have asked that more retail space be allowed on the property. They will make a presentation to council.
Prince Edward County council meets tonight at 7 o’clock at Shire Hall.
