Belleville Mayor Taso Christopher will meet with Via Rail officials next week.
Mayor Christopher says he will meet with the President and CEO of Via Rail, Yves Desjardin-Siciliano.
Part of the discussion will be around the Via Rail president’s business plan to bring electrified trains on its rails from Windsor to Quebec. Christopher says this will have more financial gain than regular engine trains.

Meanwhile Mayor Christopher says the future of the old Via Rail station in Belleville is still uncertain.
In a recent message to Quinte News, Via spokesperson Mylene Belanger said “The old station in Belleville is an important Heritage building which is located on the CN right-of-way. Consequently, for any new development regarding Belleville, CN and Park Canada would be involved.
VIA Rail would hope that the station’s function would be in the best interest of the community. Our wish is that this important Heritage station becomes a destination for all Belleville residents once again.”
