Quinte West council is being asked to take advantage of a good deal while it’s still available on an almost new pumper truck for its fire department.
In a special meeting late this afternoon, council will be asked to waive its tendering policy in order to buy a Pierce pumper truck immediately from the company Darch Fire.
It’s a demonstration model and its price is under what was budgeted for by council. Quinte West Fire Chief John Whalen says other departments are interested, and time is of the essence.
A new pumper is needed at Station 4, Tuckers Corners. It would replace a 21 year old outdated pumper.
Quinte West council meets at 5:30 today at city hall.
