Northland Power Company is hopeful that Ontario will look favourably on the proposed Marmora pump storage project to provide clean energy.
Director of Business Development John Wright says the company is working on equipment design, but has also been showing the new Minister of Energy Glenn Thibeault the merits of the plan.
Wright says the company still needs the approval of the Ministry of the Environment but is confident it will be appreciated both provincially and federally.
He says a Marmora and Lake Master Plan study indicated it would create a good tourist attraction.
The proposed man-made waterfall at the old Marmora mine property would create and store energy, to be fed to the Ontario hydro grid.
It’s expected to create about 45 permanent jobs.
