Quinte West’s Corporate Finance Committee has turned down a sponsorship request to help build
a spectacular botanical garden in the Frankford area.
Deanna Groves of The Garden Place asked the committee to approve 10 thousand dollars to sponsor
the project.
Most on the committee agreed with councillor Don Kuntze that the city shouldn’t be providing money to a
a private business.
Mayor Jim Harrison disagreed with the majority, saying the gardens would bring tourists to the city for
years to come.
Support is strong for the proposal as there are already 27 sponsors, many volunteers and considerable
media backing.
The gardens would be called Quinte Botanical Gardens, and feature at least 25 different displays.
Ms. Groves told the committee that ground work on the displays would begin with a planting of thousands
of tulip bulbs this fall.
