The Belleville Senators were back at home on Sunday afternoon for a North Division clash against the Rochester Americans, winning 3-2 in a shootout.
Frame one had the Senators open the scoring, with the new faces chipping in.
On a two-on-one, Phil Tomasino slid the puck past Matthew Villalta, set up by Samuel Blais and Ryan Suzuki, to give Belleville a 1-0 lead.
The Americans would strike right back just over a minute later. On the power play, Matthew Peca would score his first of the year, with assists coming from Jason Polin and Thomas Bordeleau to tie the game at 1-1.
The middle twenty minutes saw Belleville take hold of the game with plenty of chances. Samuel Blais would put home his first as a Senator with a slick close-crease goal during the man advantage. Xavier Bourgault and Christian Kyrou picked up the helpers for a 2-1 Belleville lead going into the final period.
The third period saw Rochester make a big push to knot up the score, and they would get that opportunity.
Pressure deep in the Belleville zone had Trevor Kuntar level the game at 2-2, as Red Savage and Vsevolod Komarov nabbed assists to push this contest to overtime.
The extra frame had both sides get their fair share of chances, though it was not enough, sending the game to a shootout.
After an early Amerks tally, Jonas Johansson would shut the door opening up Samuel Blais and Philippe Daoust to put home their chances to secure a 3-2 Senators victory.
Belleville will have to wait quite a while before they see the Americans again, as the next matchup goes on Saturday, December 5 in Rochester.
The second game of the season series gets underway at 5:05 p.m. inside Blue Cross Arena.
The Senators have six days to rest and practice before going on the road to Syracuse to face the Crunch (AHL affiliate of the Tampa Bay Lightning) for their first away game of the season.
Puck drop at Upstate Medical University Arena is set for 7:00 p.m.
