Bay of Quinte MP Chris Malette and Chief R. Donald Maracle of the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte announced new federal funding of over $66 million to extend the watermain in Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory on Tuesday.
According to a release from the federal government, the project will expand access to safe, reliable drinking water for the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte by connecting currently unserviced areas of the community to the existing water treatment plant.
The federal government says it will improve water security, strengthen resilience to drought and climate change, enhance fire protection through new hydrant connections, and support future housing development.
Once completed, the project will enable the community’s drinking water advisory to be lifted.
Funding for the project comes from the federal government’s Build Communities Strong Fund.
