Chris DeSousa, a manager at the Napanee McDonald’s restaurant at 475 Centre Street North, was recently named Outstanding Manager of the Year by McDonald’s Canada.
The award is only given to the top 5% of managers across McDonald’s locations in Canada, and recognizes managers who have displayed exceptional leadership and commitment to serving their community.
DeSousa, known as “Mayor McChris” by his team and restaurant guests due to his outgoing personality and his connection to the community, was recognized for going above-and-beyond to help others as well as contributing to the community, whether it’s through the chain’s McHappy Day, giving back to local health care initiatives, or supporting youth sports.

McDonald’s Canada has named Chris DeSousa of the Napanee McDonald’s restaurant at 475 Centre Street North as a 2026 Outstanding Manager of the Year, recognizing him as one of the top five per cent of restaurant leaders across Canada.
DeSousa has distinguished himself through strong leadership skills, a commitment to providing high-quality guest experiences, and dedication to building a workplace where team members can succeed and grow.
His journey started when he was 15 years old as a crew member at the1165 Division Street McDonald’s in Kingston. He was very shy at first, but over time he came out of his shell and found his passion for getting involved in the community and bonding with his team. Connecting with guests and crew members has been his number one driver ever since. Serving as a trainer, area leader, swing manager, and department manager, he became a restaurant manager in 2022.
“There’s so much pride in knowing that this award belongs to our entire community,” said DeSousa. “This moment means the world to my family and me. It’s proof that hard work, determination, and perseverance truly pay off.”
Every year, McDonald’s Canada franchisees and regional management nominate outstanding restaurant managers based on their dedication to quality, customer service, team development, and community support. This year’s honour reflects DeSousa’s exceptional leadership and positive impact on both sides of the counter.
“A massive congratulations to Chris on this outstanding and well-deserved win. Chris truly leads with an owner’s mindset, taking pride in every detail and showing care for every single guest and team member,” said Napanee McDonald’s Canada Franchisee, Todd Shea. “His passion is unmatched and he represents the McDonald’s brand with so much care. Around here, we call him ‘Mayor McChris’ because of the incredible impact he makes through his leadership, ownership, and heart.”
