The Trenton Golden Hawks are back on the ice for the regular season beginning Friday.
They take on the Lindsay Muskies on the road, with their home opener slated for Friday September 18.
Beckett Ewart is returning following his point-per-game pace last season.
“First couple days of camp, you know, there’s a lot of new faces. We’ve got a lot of new guys, we’re a lot younger than we were at the start of year last year. But it’s good, it’s exciting. We’ve got a lot of young guys that are ready to get started. Everyone’s just getting to know each other, hanging out outside of the rink. It’s been real fun.”
“We’ve got a couple guys coming in to play on the back end that are a little bigger. I like the look of our size this season. At our smaller rink, it should help us.”
He says he has been telling new teammates about the atmosphere at “The Dunc.”
“I would say it’s one of, if not the best spot for the OJ to play home games at. I mean, it’s packed every night throughout the entire season, whether it’s the start or it’s November or it’s playoffs, so it’s awesome. It makes it harder for away teams to come into our rink.”
Jordan Bailey is spending his first year with the Golden Hawks, along with new Head Coach Connor Armour and Mark MacAulay.
“We’re trying to establish the culture here. Our own design on it with Connor, Mark, Mike Camilleri, everyone that’s new here. We’re just trying to make it our own, but we don’t want to change too much. We want to keep it the Trenton Golden Hawks way.”
We asked him to describe the club for fans.
“Fast and heavy. We want to play north. I think “Arms” (Connor Armour) and I have talked about that. We want creativity, but we want to play the right way. We want to make sure we’re finishing our checks, we want to make sure we’re heavy on the forecheck, and we develop scoring chances.”
The G-Hawks are coming off a second-round loss at the hands of the Newmarket Hurricanes.
They played in the OJHL Championship Series the three years prior.
