A Heritage Permit allowing the expansion of the Drake Devonshire Inn near the beach in Wellington will be up for discussion at Prince Edward County’s meeting on Tuesday.
The county’s Built & Cultural Heritage Advisory Committee has asked council to defer the issuing of a Heritage Permit until the developer completes a Heritage Impact Assessment and county staff get a third-party consultant to prepare a separate impact study to be paid for by the developer.
Meanwhile at the meeting Tuesday, a lawyer for the developer will tell council to reject the deferral, saying the developers have already done an extensive heritage study and the deferral will likely lead to expensive legal proceedings.
Council has already approved a site plan for the expansion on Wharf Street which would involve a new
three-storey building attached to the existing heritage inn, originally built as a foundry in the later 1800s.

Residents nearby say the expansion does not fit in with the neighbourhood.
