The sixth annual Polar Plunge took place in Belleville on Friday.
Twenty teams with 134 plungers dove into the Bay of Quinte at the Herchimer boat launch, raising funds for Special Olympics Ontario.
The fundraiser beat the target goal of $20,000, with $23,470 raised.
Deputy Belleville Police Chief Sheri Meeks thanked the plungers for their fundraising efforts.
“Every year this program grows and grows and grows. So when we started it six years ago, it was just the Belleville police and we were jumping into one hole carved out in the ice,” said Deputy Chief Meeks. “Every year, more and more community agencies, more and more community partners are wanting to put teams in.”
The teams participating came from all over, with teams from the Belleville Police Service, Belleville Fire and Emergency Services, Hastings Quinte Paramedics, and more.
