Tenders have been issued for the reconstruction of County Road 49.
That news was confirmed by Prince Edward County mayor Steve Ferguson in a post to Facebook on Friday.
Ferguson says that the tenders will close at the end of April.
“Submissions will be reviewed for completeness, experience and capabilities, and a staff report with recommendations to award the project will come to council sometime in May,” Ferguson said in his post.
“Timing of construction commencement and completion will be discussed at the May meeting. Please stay tuned.”
County Road 49 has notoriously been named one of the worst roads in Ontario by CAA (Canadian Automobile Association) for multiple years.
The estimated cost of the project is over $52 million, with the province announcing last month that they would be committing upwards of $45 million.
Work is expected to take place over two construction seasons in 2026 and 2027.
