This year and next will bring a big boost in the number of long-term care beds available in the wider Quinte region.
It’s expected some 400 new beds will be available with new homes in Belleville, Tyendinaga, Centre Hastings, and Napanee.
President of Quinte Health Stacey Daub tells Quinte News the need for long-term care is very high and the province has a good plan to decide which people get beds first.
“They have really good tools where they assess risk and priorities. They use those priority scales right across the province to determine who is at the highest priority for long-term care.”
Daub says the 400 new beds will be a big help for everyone involved but it’s projected that over the next 10 years there will be a need for 1,000 more long-term care spaces.
