Hospice Quinte announces the launch of its “More Heart. More Home.” capital campaign, a significant expansion project aimed at increasing access to compassionate, specialized end-of-life care for the local community.
The campaign will support the addition of four new hospice beds, helping address the growing demand for palliative care services in the region, reduce wait times for families in need, and ease pressure on local hospitals. This expansion reflects Hospice Quinte’s ongoing commitment to ensuring that individuals and families receive high-quality, dignified care close to home.
“As our community continues to grow, so does the need for specialized hospice care,” said Petra Lepage, executive director of Hospice Quinte. “This expansion will allow us to provide excellent end-of-life care to even more people in our community. Our goal has always been to ensure that no one faces the end of life alone, and this project will help us continue to provide compassionate care in a peaceful, home-like setting.”
A key feature of the expansion will be the introduction of a Veterans Specialty Suite, designed to honour the service and sacrifice of our Canadian Armed Forces Veterans. While the suite will stand as a tribute to Veterans, it will remain available to all residents receiving care.
In addition to increasing bed capacity, the expansion will introduce thoughtfully-designed spaces to better support patients and their families. Enhancements include a family sunroom for quiet reflection and connection, a family washroom with shower, a private office for attending physicians, and additional storage to support care delivery. Together, these features will create a more comfortable, supportive environment for families spending meaningful time with their loved ones.
Hospice Quinte is deeply grateful for the strong community support already behind this initiative. The organization extends special thanks to the Klemencic Family for their extraordinary generosity, including a $1 million donation that represents a transformative investment in the future of hospice care in the Quinte region.
Hospice Quinte also acknowledges the valued support of Ontario Health in expanding grief and bereavement programs, and Quinte West Council for waiving $37,468 in municipal fees.
Construction of the addition is scheduled to begin in spring 2026, with completion anticipated by spring 2027. Hospice Quinte will mark the start of the project with a groundbreaking ceremony on April 10, 2026, bringing together community partners, supporters, and local leaders to celebrate this important milestone.
Community members are encouraged to support the “More Heart. More Home.” campaign by making a donation or learning more about the project. Contributions will directly impact the availability and quality of hospice care in the region.
