A visitor at Warkworth Institution has been charged after an incident at the facility.
On January 30, 2026, Northumberland County OPP received a report of a visitor at the facility who refused to leave and kicked a door causing injury to a correctional officer.
The officer was later taken to a local hospital for non-serious injuries.
As a result of the investigation, the Northumberland OPP Crime Unit took one person into custody on March 16.
Thirty-two-year-old Maryan Mahamed of Scarborough has been charged with assault a peace officer with a weapon
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg in April, 2026.
