Hastings County could be getting some new ambulances to replace part of its aging fleet.
During Wednesday’s meeting of the Hastings/Quinte Emergency Services Committee, plans to replace four aging ambulances were discussed. The four ambulances in question each have over 225,000 km on the odometer, with the most used currently sitting at 245,000 km. Each of the ambulances is expected to have over 300,000 km on the odometer by the time they are replaced in the spring of 2027.
The cost to replace the older vehicles is $1,095,600 plus taxes, which was already budgeted for. While the purchase is planned for 2027, a 30% deposit is required in advance. Orders for the new vehicles can take 12 to 18 months to complete, meaning an order should be placed early to receive the ambulances in time for the planned replacement.
The committee recommended that Hastings County Council approve the replacement, and forwarded the matter to the next meeting of council.
