The City of Belleville recognized one of their own for their bravery in a recent house fire.
Nicholas Cameron is a member of the city’s Transportation and Operations team, and was working the night shift as a sidewalk plow operator.
At around 5:00 a.m. on February 12, while plowing sidewalks near William Street and Queen Street, Cameron spotted flames coming from the home and saw a woman in distress outside.
Cameron ensured that the woman was safely away from the fire, before learning that the woman’s sister was still inside the home.
He yelled through the front windows before going around the back of the house and entering the second floor.
With smoke quickly filling the home, he was forced to exit and waited for emergency services to arrive.
The city recognized Cameron for his bravery during council’s meeting on Monday, with Mayor Neil Ellis calling his actions an “extraordinary act of courage and compassion.”
