Some residents of Brighton want ways other than just internet voting to be used in October’s municipal election.
On Monday, Brighton council will see a request from Phyllis Lanham that in-person and mail-in voting be allowed along with online.
Lanham says many seniors have issues with computers and about half of Brighton’s population consists of seniors.
She also maintains there are security issues with online voting.
In the last local election in 2022 almost 47% of eligible voters in Brighton cast ballots using internet voting only. That was the highest voter turnout in Northumberland County.
However, Lanham says voter turn-out declined 10 per cent in Brighton from 2018 to 2022.
