Belleville Police Service is launching a formal program aimed at learning what the public’s priorities
are when it comes to crime and safety in the community.
Inspector Jeremy Ashley told the Police Service Board on Thursday that the program will centre on town hall
meetings to be held in the city’s four policing zones.
They are Thurlow, West End, East End, and Downtown/North Front Street.
Police Service leadership and zone officers will attend the meetings and provide informatio,n but the focus will be on hearing from
residents on what they expect from their police service.
Ashley said it’s expected the seven town hall meetings being planned will last 90 to 120 minutes and will serve to build trust,
transparency, and a shared understanding of community priorities.
Following the town hall meetings, Community Safety Days will be held during the summer in the four zones featuring feedback displays and information regarding the service and community partners such as Hastings-Quinte Paramedic Services, Fire and
Emergency, and Public Health, among others.
Youth and family activities would also be involved during the Safety Days, expected to last between three and four hours.
Details for those events are being planned.
Meanwhile, exact dates and times for the town hall meetings are currently being worked out but it’s proposed they be held in Thurlow
in April and September, the West End in April and October, the East End in May and November, and the Downtown/North Front
Street zone in June.
Belleville Police Service will provide final details for the events in the near future.
