While the main topic of a presentation to the Belleville Chamber of Commerce Wednesday morning was a description of the dangerous work evacuating people from wildfires in northern Manitoba and Ontario last summer the Commanding Officer of 8 Air Maintenance Squadron Lieutenant Colonel Craig Greeley had thoughts on other issues affecting the military as well.
Regarding the Carney government’s pledge to greatly increase spending on national defence Greeley told Quinte News the policy change has been”music to the military’s ears.
“As I look at CFB Trenton the number of different air platforms that will be coming through here in the next couple of years we’re growing significantly in that regard to be able to support Canada as we move forward. Thousands of Canadians coming in to recruit in Canada….it’s incredible!”
And, while acknowledging that the Swedish Saab Gripen fighter jet could mean great economic benefits for Canada LCol Greeley says he personally
is in the Lockheed Martin F-35 camp.
“Now I look at that F-35 as being that aircraft that I know the United States, the U.K., Australia, also have so when it comes to conflict in the
future there’s a supportability that we can offer one another.”
