Staffing changes at local health unit offices have been put on hold.
At the meeting, the board passed a motion to engage a third-party consultant to begin work on a strategic plan and help develop a clear vision for the future.
The board also passed a resolution that places a pause on further implementation of the Rural Services Delivery Strategy.
Southeast Public Health Chair Nathan Townend says the board will meet again next week.
“With the specific goal of ascertaining what changes have happened to date, what changes are coming down the pipe, under what banners those come under, so we can get a clearer picture of what’s happening.”
He says there has been a disconnect at all levels.
“In people’s understanding of what’s happening and it’s caused a lot of consternation, it’s caused a lot of concern about services and service levels. We got to figure all of this out and we got to do a reset and get everybody on the same page so that there isn’t this disconnect.”
Townend says he hopes this pause will put the staff, the board, and the public back on the same page.
“Our communities can be proud of this board, and confident in their skills and expertise, as well as their professionalism, compassion, and dedication. Together, the board is moving forward to deliver on its strong commitment to the success of the merger, and the strengthening of public health in our region.” – Chair Nathan Townend
